Mas de Sans - Rural Country Cottage
Mas de Sans is a 200 year old, typical Catalan Country Farmhouse, situated on a 15 Hectare Almond Farm in the Hills above Tarragona. The farm is located in the countryside below Albiol and reached through the residential estate of Masies Catalanes which is situated approx. 3 to 4 km. equally from the villages of Alcover and La Selva del Camp. The entrance to Masies Catalanes is on the old C14 from Reus to Montblanc. The estate was originally a vineyard and the winery on the estate (Villa Urutia) has since been turned into a lovely restaurant open lunchtimes and weekends and is only 5 mins. walk from Mas de Sans.
The entrance to the farm is approx. 1.5km into the estate of Masies Catalanes and the house is reached down a short track of 500m. Once you reach the end of the track you will arrive at the farmhouse which is situated in beautiful countryside with no other houses in sight!
The accomodation is in the original Farmworkers’ cottage, restored to a high level of comfort, maintaining many of the original features.
The cottage has it’s own entrance and garden area separate from the main house, with spectacular views over the almond groves, surrounding hills and Tarragona Coastline. The estate also contains olives, carob, figs and a variety of fruit trees.
There is a natural spring, plunge pool (6m x 4m x 1.4m) approx. 200m from the cottage. Guests of Mas de Sans can walk around the farm at their leisure anywhere on the estate where there are some interesting walks and pathways. In addition there are countless walks in the surrounding hills including an interesting path to the village of Alcover.
Athough the main farmhouse is only a few metres away, total privacy is assured, although it must be remembered that this is a working farm and at anytime of the year some kind of activity on the land is sure to be happening. Guests are welcome to take part in the almond harvest during August/ September and the picking of Olives in November.
The distance from the property to the main road between Reus and Montblanc is about 1 ½ Km. and we are situated only 10 mins. from Reus airport and the important Modernist Capital of the Baix Camp county. The farm is found at the base of the Prades mountains boasting countless walks, country mountain routes with historic villages, gourmet/ wine routes and the famous Cistertian Monastery route.
